Hyundai Rotem has secured a $33 miilion contract to supply 16 two-car trains for the Jakarta light rail transit (LRT) system. The trains will have track gauge of 1,067 mm. The contract includes an option for an additional 94 trains at a cost of $167 million. Phase I involves the development of two sections of Line 1 and one section of Line 2. For Line 1, Section 1 will span 14.5 km from Cibubur to Cawang and Section 2 will span 10.5 km from Cawang to Dukuh Atas. For Line 2, Section 1 will span 17.5 km from East Bekasi to Cawang. Phase I will span 42.5 km and cover 18 stations. It is scheduled to be completed before the 2018 Asian Games in August 2018 at an estimated investment of IDR 11.9 trillion.
