LBS Bina Group Bhd has signed a head of agreement (HOA) with Ancom Bhd, Nylex (Malaysia) Bhd, Sinar Bina Infra Sdn Bhd (SBI) and BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited to build and operate a light rail transport (LRT) system to connect with the under-construction Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link).

The partnership will comprise an integrated property development based on the transit-oriented development (TOD) concept in Malaysia’s Johor Bharu. The LRT project is scheduled to undergo a feasibility study to determine its commercial viability and is also awaiting granting of a concession award by the state government of Johor.

The preferred equipment supplier and system integrator for the LRT project, as well as the preferred primary contractor for operation and maintenance, will be BTS and its affiliates, while LBS and its affiliates will be the preferred civil and construction contractor.

The proposed LRT network will span 75 km. Once operational, the LRT network is expected to transport approximately 15,000 passengers per hour in one direction, similar to the carrying capacity of the RTS Link.
