Hitachi Rail has secured new contracts to install a cutting-edge Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for Bangkok’s MRT Orange Line and to upgrade the AFC systems on the MRT Blue and Purple Lines. The project covers all 28 stations on the Orange Line and 53 stations across the Blue and Purple Lines.

The modernisation introduces multiple payment options, including open-loop EMV card payments and QR code ticketing, aiming to provide a seamless, convenient, and digital payment experience for commuters. The contracts also include multi-year maintenance agreements to support system reliability.

Additionally, these upgrades demonstrate their commitment to advanced, interoperable fare solutions that enhance sustainable and accessible urban mobility in Bangkok, continuing a partnership with Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) dating back to 2004.
