Hitachi Rail and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have signed an Industrial Collaboration Program (ICP) agreement to support technology transfer, local skills development, and greater participation of Malaysian companies in rail projects.
The ICP is linked to the modernisation of the automatic signalling system on the Kelana Jaya Line and aligns with Malaysia’s national industrial collaboration policy. Initial initiatives, already completed, focused on data analytics knowledge transfer at Hitachi Rail’s digital competence centre and internship and professional attachment programs in railway signalling.
Planned next steps include the development of a signalling testing and simulation centre, CBTC specialisation programs, and further localisation initiatives with Malaysian partners.
Hitachi Rail has been active in Malaysia’s urban rail sector since 1998, delivering projects such as the SelTrac CBTC system on the Kelana Jaya Line, signalling upgrades on the Ampang Line, and the establishment of the Rail Centre of Excellence in Batu Gajah.
The new ICP reinforces long-term localisation objectives while supporting ongoing upgrades to Malaysia’s urban rail network.
