The State Government of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has announced plans to build three international passenger terminals in the Can Gio coastal urban area, Mui Den Do, and Ben Nghe Port to enhance waterway transport and boost tourism in Vietnam. These terminals are part of the city’s General Planning adjustment project until 2040, with a vision to 2060, and will soon be submitted for approval. The terminals will cater to ships of various sizes: up to 100,000 GT in Can Gio, 60,000 GT in Mui Den Do, and 30,000 GT in Ben Nghe. They will feature modern facilities and services to improve the tourist experience, including dedicated docking areas, luxurious reception zones, and dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

Currently, international passenger ships docking at cargo ports like Nha Rong–Khanh Hoi and Hiep Phuoc do not meet maritime safety and security standards, affecting the city’s ability to attract cruise tourists. The new terminals aim to address this issue and boost tourism revenue, as cruise tourists spend an average of USD100 per day.
