The city of Hanoi will pilot the rental of electric bicycles to enhance connections between local bus routes and the bus rapid transit (BRT) system. The project, which will run from the AEON Mall Ha Dong to the Van Khe BRT platform, will be inaugurated by the Hanoi’s Department of Transportation and the University of Transport Technology and will run until the end of 2023.

The European Commission and associated agencies will fund the pilot project. The service will be provided free of charge during the trial period. The project’s goal is to increase the efficiency of public transportation while also reducing the dependency on personal vehicles. It also aims to promote the adoption of environmentally efficient automobiles, enhance public awareness of environmental issues, and reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

Currently, buses are the only mode of public transportation in the city, with the state-owned Transerco and various private businesses operating over 100 routes.
