The JV of Hanoi Transport and Services Corporation (Transerco) and Vietnam-based Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) has commenced trial of the electronic ticketing system on Line 1 of the BRT system in Hanoi. The customer database will be at the Hanoi Public Transport Management and Operation Centre. Passengers can purchase tickets at ticket vending machines installed at Kim Ma, Nui Truc, Hoang Dao Thuy and Yen Nghia stations, online and through the Timbus mobile application (app). The JV has launched daily tickets equipped with near field communication chip and one-way quick response code-printed paper tickets. BRT Line 1 spans 14.7 km from Kim Ma to Yen Nghia, covering 23 stations. Passenger services had commenced in January 2017 and 4.98 million passengers had travelled on the system by February 2018. Line 1 has been developed at an investment of $295 million, of which $155 million was provided by the World Bank.
