Guangzhou Metro Group has expressed readiness to share its expertise with Ho Chi Minh City in implementing transit-oriented development (TOD) strategies. The company presented lessons from over three decades of experience in planning, financing, and building integrated urban rail and TOD zones. With over 1,230 km of metro lines in operation, Guangzhou Metro serves 70 per cent of its city’s public transport demand, using TOD to enhance connectivity, land use, and cityscape design.
Ho Chi Minh City is actively working on similar goals, with areas like Thu Thiem Station, Long Binh Depot, and Long Truong Depot earmarked for TOD planning. Officials are considering Guangzhou’s TOD examples—such as Pazhounan (Chi Sha Depot) and Zha Tou Station—for local adaptation. The city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment has proposed inter-agency coordination to develop TOD-specific regulations and planning processes to attract investment and optimise land near key metro assets.
