The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), in collaboration with PetroVietnam, will lead the pilot survey and development of offshore wind (OSW) projects in Vietnam. Early implementation of OSW is essential to executing the national energy plan as the 2030 deadline approaches.
The MoIT will also review and propose amendments to the Electricity Law and related regulations to enhance the legal framework for energy projects, including OSW.
The MoIT estimates that electricity generation needs to grow by 10 to 12 per cent annually. The development plan for OSW in Vietnam anticipates a total capacity of 6,000MW across different regions by 2030: 2,500MW in the north, 500MW in the central region, 2,000MW in the south-central area, and 1,000MW in the south.
