Government of Singapore has announced that it will be phasing out all internal combustion engine (ICE) cars by 2040. In order to support this initiative, the Government is planning to deploy 60,000 charging points by 2030 in both public and private carparks, as a part of the Green Plan. Additionally, by 2040, the Government will also electrify 5,800 public buses across Singapore.
To promote the transition away from ICE vehicles, the Government of Singapore has released the EV Early Adoption Incentives (EEAI) for the period 2021-23. The EEAI will include measures to lower registration cost for new electric vehicles (EV) and will also include a 34 per cent reduction in road tax for EV owners.
In an effort towards this transition, SMRT Corporation Limited (SMRT), Singapore’s transportation service provider, has announced its intentions to electrify its taxi fleets by 2026 and replace all ICE vehicles in iits fleet.
