The Government of Melaka has announced plans to construct an undersea tunnel to support a rail system that will link Melaka and Dumai in Indonesia. The state government is currently awaiting approval from the Government of Indonesia before the project can be implemented.
Once approved, construction is expected to take around four to five years to complete. A Malaysia-based firm has expressed interest to develop the tunnel and will finance 50 per cent of the total project cost. Name of the firm has not been released.
