The Government of Cambodia has granted in-principle approval for the development of a new airport in Ratanakiri province, designating 1,905 hectares of land in Thmey Village, Chey Odom Commune, Lumphat District for the project.
The airport will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, in line with Cambodia’s approach to major infrastructure projects. A virtual meeting held on September 2, chaired by Tek Saly, Secretary of State at the Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), brought together provincial authorities and stakeholders to review progress and mechanisms for the project.
The project is a part of Cambodia’s broader infrastructure master plan, which includes domestic airport developments such as the planned Mondulkiri airport. Cambodia currently operates three international airports and one domestic airport in Koh Kong province.
