Globe Telecom and Philippine Long Distance Telephone [PLDT] Company were adjudged the best service providers under several categories at the recent Frost & Sullivan Philippines Excellence Awards 2013.
Globe Telecom was recognised as the Mobile Service Provider of the Year for 2013, for its remarkable performance in the Philippines’ wireless market.
During the first quarter of 2013, Globe outpaced the Philippines’ telecom industry with a revenue growth of 6 per cent (PhP 21.4 billion), which was driven by its mobile business as subscriber numbers reached 35.1 million (a net addition of 2 million during the quarter). Globe’s customisable and innovative service offerings, value-for-money promotions, handset and gadget launches, coupled with the rising demand for mobile browsing and voice services in the Philippines, all played a key role in Globe’s success. The operator was also acknowledged as the Emerging Infrastructure-as-a-Service Vendor of the Year. Its Globe Infrastructure-as-a-Service offers a range of cloud solutions that cater to the needs of various small, medium, and large enterprises. These cloud solutions provide businesses with access to the most advanced and relevant information and communications technology solutions; thus, enterprises do not have to purchase and maintain the hardware themselves, which enables them to reduce their IT expenditure. The operator completed the first phase of its modernisation programme, which involved a complete overhaul of its cell sites to support high speed services.
Meanwhile, PLDT won four awards: Philippines Telecom Service Provider of the Year, Broadband Service Provider of the Year, Hosted Contact Center Service Provider of the Year, and Datacenter Services Vendor of the Year (conferred on its wholly owned subsidiary, ePLDT). The operator has made significant efforts to transform itself from a pure telecom company into an integrated multimedia communications group. In 2012, PLDT invested PhP 67 billion to complete its network modernisation programme, which involved the expansion of its fibre optic network (up to 54,000 km) and the preparation of its networks for long term evolution technology. PLDT currently offers rich multimedia services such as movie and TV content on its fibre-powered networks. Further, the operator extended its VITRO Data Center services beyond Metro Manila.
The 2013 Philippines Excellence Awards recipients were selected on the basis of in-depth interviews, analyses, and secondary research conducted by Frost & Sullivan’s analysts. Performance indicators such as companies’ revenue growth, market share in a specific category and growth in market share, leadership in new product introduction and innovation, breadth of products and solutions, major customer acquisitions, as well as business and market strategies were also taken into consideration.
