SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDCE), a subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation and Gentari Sdn Bhd have launched the Sarawak H2 Hub, a global-scale hydrogen production facility in Bintulu, Malaysia. The joint venture (JV) with SEDCE as the majority shareholder and Gentari Hydrogen Sdn Bhd, will manage the development, construction, and operation of the hub, aiming to standardise and optimise hydrogen production in the region.
The Sarawak H2 Hub will serve as the exclusive supplier of green hydrogen for downstream facilities in Bintulu, adopting a plug-and-play concept for modular integration of hydrogen production units. Collaborative projects like H2ornbill with Japan-based ENEOS and Sumitomo Corporation, and H2biscus with South Korea-based Samsung Engineering, Lotte Chemical, and KNOC, will be part of this initiative. This partnership supports Sarawak’s goal of becoming a commercial hydrogen producer by 2027 and aligns with Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap.
