Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has commenced the deployment of new generation train sets for the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) in the Philippines. Delivery of the Gen-4 light rail vehicles (LRVs) commenced in 2021 and were manufactured by Mitsubishi Corporation and Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrorcarriles (CAF). Till date, a total of 20 train sets have been delivered, which will gradually enter service by December 2023.

The remaining 10 train sets will be delivered between November 2023 and February 2024. Completed deployment of the Gen-4 LRVs are scheduled for Q4 of 2024.

The four-car trains can accommodate a total of 1,388 passengers per trip. The Gen-4 trains will operate alongside the existing three-car LRVs. The new rolling stock is also expected to improve system capacity, increasing daily ridership from 280,000 passengers to 300,000 passengers by 2024.
