The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) has launched a cashless fare payment system on Metro Manila’s EDSA Busway, enabling commuters to pay for trips by scanning QR codes using the GCash mobile wallet application.

Under the new arrangement, passengers can open the GCash app and scan QR codes displayed inside buses to complete fare payments. Instructional materials have been installed at EDSA Busway stations to guide first-time users through the process. The system incorporates enhanced security protocols to safeguard user accounts during transactions. The EDSA Busway deployment further extends the use of mobile wallet-based payments across high-capacity bus and rail corridors in the capital region, supporting the government’s push toward modernised, cashless public transport services.

The rollout forms part of a broader effort by the DOTr to expand digital fare payment options across Metro Manila’s public transport network. Earlier in 2025, the department introduced cashless payment systems on the MRT-3 line, including GCash-supported automated fare collection, aimed at reducing queues and improving passenger flow at stations.
