Fugro has announced that is has finished the first phase of its underwater site characterization project for Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to aid the deployment of the Bifrost Cable System (BCS). The BCS is a deep-sea fibre-optic cable network that will link the west coast of North America, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia and Guam once deployed. The intercontinental route sections, off the west coast of North America, has been examined and work on the Indonesia section, which runs through the Celebes and Java seas, will begin soon.
ASN is building the BCS for a consortium involving Keppel, Facebook and Telin to satisfy the growing demands for broadband connectivity between the west coast of North America and Asia-Pacific (APAC). Fugro’s participation in the project spans the entire life cycle of the project, with work starting in November 2020. Fugro’s advanced collection, development, and analysis capabilities are being used to provide real-time Geo-data deliverables to help direct the cable production process and determine the best cable navigation and burial depth.
