The first of eight driverless trains for the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link was unveiled at Singapore’s Rail Test Centre in Tuas. The four-car, 76.5-meter-long train, with an optimal capacity of 607 and a maximum of 1,087 passengers, will undergo rigorous testing at the USD800 million facility starting in July 2025. The RTS Link is slated to begin operations by end-2026 and is expected to boost connectivity and economic integration between Malaysia and Singapore.
System installation works are now 56 per cent complete, including near-final track laying and ongoing traction power system deployment. The RTS Link will be operated by RTS Operations (RTSO), a joint venture (JV) between Singapore’s SMRT and Malaysia’s Prasarana.
