Garuda Indonesia has completed the country’s first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel. The Boeing 737-800NG aircraft transported more than 100 passengers from Jakarta to Surakarta city. Fuel was supplied by PT Pertamina which was produced at its Cilacap refinery in Central Java using hydroprocessed esters and fatty acid (HEFA) technology.

Garuda completed an engine ground test in August 2023 and conducted other test runs during the first half of October 2023.

Further tests and discussions will be carried out in the future before the palm oil-blended fuel can be used on a large-scale commercial basis in Indonesia.
