Construction works for the last segment of the Can Tho–Ca Mau Expressway, which connects Ho Chi Minh City to Vietnam’s southernmost province, are underway, with completion expected by December 2025. The 111-km-long expressway, managed by the My Thuan Project Management Board, is over 58 per cent complete after two years of construction. The project, valued at VND27.5 trillion, runs through Can Tho City and multiple Mekong Delta provinces, with a cross-sectional width of 17 meters.

The 38-km-long Can Tho–Hau Giang segment has reached 64 per cent completion, while the 73-km Hau Giang–Ca Mau section stands at 55 per cent. To meet deadlines, nearly 3,000 workers and over 900 pieces of machinery are deployed around the clock. A material shortage was addressed by using sea sand from Soc Trang Province, which is washed and tested before transport. Contractors continued work throughout the Tet holiday, with key tasks including bridge installations, road foundation preparation, and embankment filling. Once completed, this expressway will significantly improve connectivity between the Mekong Delta and the rest of Vietnam.
