The Vietnam Electricity National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), a subsidiary of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), will complete works on the 220 kV Nam Sum–Nong Cong double-circuit (D/C) line by May 2024. The 130-km-long transmission line starts from connection point G1 at the Vietnam-Laos border to the Nong Cong substation and involves 299 column foundation positions and 99 corridor anchorages.

Progress has slowed down as the project is facing obstacles in the Nghe An province. EVN and EVNNPT have requested the provincial committee to expedite the change of natural forest land use for 31 column positions and urge a quick appraisal and approval of temporary forest use plans by April 25, 2024. Construction activities are to proceed alongside these efforts.
