Electricity Generating Public Limited Company (EGCO), a subsidiary of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), has announced plans to start importing LNG by the end of 2021 in order to better regulate its fuel expenses and pursue new business prospects. The decision comes after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved seven companies to enter the LNG transportation market in June 2021.

The volume of the first LNG shipment is projected to be around 37,000 tonnes. The full import capacity will start in the third quarter of 2022. EGCO is currently in talks to purchase LNG from Asian and African locations.
