EGAT has received the first lot of LNG totalling 65,000 tonnes delivered by Malaysia’s Petronas Sendirian Berhad LNG. The LNG cargo arrived at an LNG receiving terminal of PTT LNG in Rayong. Petronas had won the bid for the procurement and import of 130,000 tonnes of LNG by EGAT. As per the agreement, EGAT will procure and import LNG in two stages of 65,000 tonnes each in the spot markets. The second shipment is due in April 2020. The agreement had been signed in line with the Energy Policy Administration Committee’s August 30, 2019 resolution that EGAT can import LNG from spot markets not exceeding 200,000 tonnes. EGAT’s LNG import is also in line with the government’s policy of promoting competition in LNG trading and procurement and preparing for LNG import liberalisation.
