SBS Transit (SBST), in collaboration with Siemens Mobility, will trial an artificial intelligence (AI) system on Singapore’s Downtown Line (DTL) which will automatically adjust train frequency based on changes in passenger demand. This system will be the first of its kind to be rolled out in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
The system will allow trains to be deployed more efficiently based on average waiting times at stations as well as crowd levels on platforms and trains. If the AI system yield positive results, it will help SBST to reduce operational costs and wastage
Additionally, SBST also plans to conduct trials on a virtual station project in collaboration with Vizzio and Huawei. As a part of this, technologies will be tested that will allow commuters to virtually navigate the MRT stations through a mobile application. It will also allow experts to remotely monitor and offer guidance on technical faults. Trials will commence in the first quarter of 2023 starting at the Cashew MRT station.
