France-based Alstom has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SMRT Trains Limited to explore the use of advanced technologies to improve railway operations and maintenance in Singapore.

Under the terms of the agreement, the partners will develop 3D-printed spare parts, autonomous robots and vision computing for predictive maintenance automation, and recoverable braking energy.

Additionally, advanced technologies including additive manufacturing, data analytics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and communications-based train control (CBTC) simulation facilities will also be developed. Both Alstom and SMRT aim to improve the efficiency and safety of rail operations and maintenance in Singapore.
