The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will spend PHP1.4 billion to build and expand 14 roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) ports in the Philippines during 2023. In northern Luzon, the funds will be used for works on the San Vicente Roro Port, Maconacon Port and Palanan Port and in eastern Luzon, the Dilasag Port, Baler Port, Infanta Port and Catanauan Port projects will receive funding. Meanwhile, the DOTr also plans to develop and upgrade the Cadiz Port, Ajuy Port and San Fernando Port in Central Visayas and the Lupon Roro Port and Sta. Ana Roro Port in Mindanao .
The agency is seeking financing partners and technical consultants to work on the 14 port projects. Each of these projects is expected to cost around PHP100 million.
Moreover, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) plans to complete 19 ongoing seaport projects during 2023. Works include the construction and rehabilitation of backup areas, breakwaters and Ro-Ro ramps. The general cargo berth at Davao CIty’s Port of Sasa will be upgraded at an investment of PHP902 million and facilities at Port of Catagbacan will be upgraded at an investment of PHP693 million.
