The Department of Transportation (DOTr) of the Philippines has awarded China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC) a PHP3 billion project management consultant contract for the Mindanao Railway Phase 1. CRDC will serve as project engineer, assisting the government with project management, cost estimates, and design for the rail project.
The first phase of construction will be funded by the Government of China and will cover the first 100 km of the proposed 1,500 km. The initial segment, which will feature eight stops, will connect Davao City with Tagum and Digos. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2022, with completion expected in 2024-2025.
