The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is targeting 2027 as the new completion date for the long-delayed Unified Grand Central Station (UGCS), which will serve as a central hub for Metro Manila’s major rail lines — MRT3, MRT7, and LRT1. Originally slated for completion in 2022, the PHP2.8-billion project encountered setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unresolved funding issues.
Further, San Miguel Corporation, which operates MRT7, expects trial runs by late 2025 and full operations by 2026. Dizon disclosed that the original contractor’s deal was terminated in May 2025 due to delays and payment issues, and a new firm will be procured to accelerate completion.
