The Department of Energy (DOE), Philippines, plans to extend the feed-in tariff (FiT) allocation for biomass and run-of-the-river technologies by another three years or until the capacity for run-of-river hydro or biomass is filled up. If the draft for the FiT allocation extension is signed, it implies that developers can fill up the remaining allocation for biomass and run-of-the-river hydropower plants until 2020. In 2017, the DOE had begun advising hydropower and biomass developers to look for offtakers as the FiT would expire on December 31, 2017. Originally, run-of-the-river hydro was approved at a rate of PhP 5.9 per kWh and biomass at a rate of PhP 6.63 per kWh.
