The Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded 78 offshore wind (OSW) energy service contracts in the Philippines with a capacity of 61.6 GW, accounting for180 per cent of the current generation capacity.
Additionally, the agency has also established Competitive Renewable Energy (RE) Zones (CREZ) in the country by identifying 25 strategic areas with the highest concentration of wind and solar resources. The initial results showed that the Philippines has a total potential capacity of 58,110 MW solar PV and 93,987 MW wind energy.
In line with this, DOE has identified locations where the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines can develop transmission capacity as well as locations for RE developers. Other RE zones for geothermal, hydropower and biomass development were identified with a total potential capacity of 655,773 MW.
The Philippine OSW roadmap showed a potential of 178 GW.
