The Department of Agriculture (DA) of the Philippines has allocated a budget of PHP24 billion to finance several climate-smart agriculture projects in the country during 2022. These projects will primarily focus on climate-related and sustainability research as well as the upgradation of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure in order to enhance access to climate data.
The agency has also partnered with private firms to develop telecommunications infrastructure in order to transmit climate information to farmers and help them adopt productivity-boosting equipment. It’s also focusing on climate adaptation credit and insurance schemes, geospatial databases, and climate-proof infrastructure.
DA plans to implement these climate projects across 130 barangays in the Philippines.
