The China-Laos Railway has commenced a cross-border tourist service from Beijing to Vientiane. The train departs from Beijing Fengtai Railway Station and travels along the Beijing-Guangzhou and Shanghai-Kunming train lines with several stops including Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng in Laos.
The 1,035-km-long China-Laos Railway, a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), commenced operations in December 2021. The rail line has transported 9.62 million tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2023, including the cross-border cargo of 2.3 million tonnes. As of August 2023, the line has transported 1.75 million passengers.
