China Road and Bridge (CRBC) has commenced works on a 138-km-long expressway linking Phnom Penh with Bavet city in Cambodia. Construction will take four years to complete. The project is expected to cost USD1.6 billion and will be financed by CRBC on a public–private partnership basis. The company will operate the expressway for a period of 50 years before handing it over to the government.

Meanwhile, the Government of Vietnam will build a 53.5-km-long expressway between Moc Ba and Ho Chi Minh City that will link to the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway, completing the road link between Vietnam and Cambodia.
