The Government of Cambodia has awarded a public private partnership (PPP) contract to China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to build the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway (PP-Bavet Expressway). The project is expected to cost around USD1.4 billion. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2023 and will take four years to complete.

The project will be built on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, with CRBC managing the PP-Bavet Expressway for a period of 50 years before transferring it to the government. CRBC will also build a 5-km bridge crossing the Mekong River. The USD250 million bridge will provide an alternative to passenger crossing using ferries.

The 135-km-long expressway will stretch from the Lvea Em district in Kandal and to the National Road No. 1.  The road will also be connected to the existing Ring Road 3. The PP-Bavet Expressway will be divided into two lanes, one for commuters and the other for transporting cargo.
