The Government of the Philippines has launched the construction of the world’s largest photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage project, the Meralco Terra Solar project. The project, with a solar power capacity of 3,500 MW and a battery storage system of 4,500 MWh, aims to provide electricity for over 2 million households by 2027. The project, located across 3,500 hectares in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. With a total investment of PHP200 billion, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 4.3 million metric tons annually, equivalent to removing 3 million gasoline-powered cars from the roads.

The project will be connected to the existing 500-kV Nagsaag-San Jose Transmission Line and later to the Nagsaag-Marilao Transmission Line. Marcos called for more similar initiatives across the country, emphasising the importance of renewable energy in meeting growing electricity demands. Companies involved in the project include Meralco, Terra Solar Philippines, Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation, and MGen Renewable Energy Incorporation.
