Construction work on four urgent projects along the North-South railway is expected to commence soon. The projects, which involve a cost of VND 7 trillion, will help improve the safety of the railway line. The first project aims to renovate and upgrade weak bridges on the Hanoi-Ho-Chi-Minh-City rail line. It consists of 11 construction packages, the work on the first of which is scheduled to begin in May 2020 while the rest will commence in the third quarter of the year. The second project will involve reinforcement of weak tunnels and expansion of stations on the Vinh-Nha Trang section. Construction is expected to begin by June 2020. The third and fourth projects aim to upgrade essential infrastructure on the Hanoi-Vinh and Nha Trang-Saigon sections respectively. The funding for these projects has been sourced from the medium-term public investment budget for transport projects for the 2016-20 period.
