The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has officially started construction of the Ortigas Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) in Pasig City after a delay of nearly two years caused by right-of-way issues. The station, located near Meralco Avenue, is expected to be completed in three years and become operational in five.

The Ortigas Station, which will be the subway’s second-largest station and serve as a key interchange for trains travelling between Mandaluyong and Ortigas. Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto welcomed the project’s long-awaited start, noting that major roadblocks had been resolved.

The MMSP, the Philippines’ first underground railway system, broke ground in 2019 and will feature 17 stations across a 33 km line connecting Valenzuela to Pasay, with a spur to NAIA Terminal 3. The PHP488.5 billion project is largely funded by a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed hopes for partial operations by 2028.
