The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has commenced construction on two stations for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) in the Philippines. Works under contract package (CP) 102 was awarded to a joint venture (JV) comprising Nishimatsu Construction Company Limited and D. M. Consunji Incorporated. The JV will oversee the construction of the Quezon and East Avenues stations.

Additionally, the companies will also undertake the construction of 3.1-km-long tunnels.  Tunnel works will commence by the end of April 2023 with drilling of tunnel boring machine (TBM) expected to start in Q4 of 2024.

The 33-km-long Metro Manila Subway will be the Philippines’ first entirely underground rail network and will connect the Valenzuela Depot to Pasay City’s NAIA Terminal 3 and the FTI station. The system is expected to serve around 519,000 passengers per day.
