Construction has commenced on the renovation and upgrade of National Highway 14D in Da Nang, Vietnam, following a groundbreaking ceremony held by the Da Nang City People’s Committee. The project, with a total investment of more than VND4.5 trillion (approximately USD172 million), will modernise the 65.37-km highway connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Ben Giang Commune to the Nam Giang International Border Gate on the Vietnam–Laos border. The project is scheduled for completion in 2028.
The project includes upgrading the highway to Grade III mountainous road standards with a 9-metre-wide roadbed and constructing 26 new bridges, including the replacement of eight existing structures. The majority of the funding will be provided by Vietnam’s central government, with the remaining investment financed by local authorities. The upgraded corridor is expected to improve road capacity, safety and cross-border connectivity between central Vietnam and Laos.
National Highway 14D forms a key part of Da Nang’s strategy to expand development towards its western region and strengthen regional transport infrastructure. The upgraded corridor is expected to facilitate logistics, border trade and economic development in mountainous areas while improving connectivity with the Nam Giang International Border Gate and supporting broader regional integration between Vietnam and Laos.
