ComfortDelGro has received regulatory approval to begin on-road trials of autonomous shuttle vehicles in Singapore, marking the company’s entry into the country’s next phase of self-driving transport development. The trials will initially deploy five five-seater autonomous shuttles, following the successful completion of Milestone 1 testing under Singapore’s autonomous vehicle regulatory framework.
The autonomous vehicles will operate on public roads to collect real-world data covering traffic behaviour, pedestrian movement, road infrastructure and local weather conditions. ComfortDelGro plans to integrate the service into its ComfortDelGro Zig ride-hailing platform, with public passenger rides targeted to begin in 2026, subject to further regulatory approvals.
ComfortDelGro is working alongside Singapore’s Land Transport Authority as part of the city-state’s broader push to introduce autonomous vehicles into the public transport network. The company has also been developing autonomous vehicle capabilities through partnerships with Chinese robotaxi firms, including Pony AI and Alibaba-backed Hello Robotaxi, to support future large-scale deployment across Singapore and overseas markets.
