Laos’s state-owned power company Electricite du Laos has awarded contracts for the Kohing-Naphia and Namxam hydropower plant-Houamuang transmission line projects to the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). The contracts have been awarded for $338 million and $146 million respectively. CMEC will have 36 months to complete the contract, following commencement of construction works. CMEC’s scope of work entails construction of a 230 kW power transmission line and ancillary substations. It will also be responsible for the design, procurement, civil engineering and construction, installation, training, commissioning, warranty and other works of the two projects on a turnkey basis
