The China-Laos railway line is expected to be fully operational in December 2021. Spanning 414 km, the railway line will link Mohan-Boten border gate in northern Laos with the capital city of Vientiane. Of the total project length, bridges span 62 km while tunnels span 198 km. The construction of the railway line is being undertaken by Laos-China Railway Company Limited, a joint venture between China and Laos.
By the end of 2019, around 95 per cent of the railway’s roadbed and bridge projects and 90 per cent of the tunnel projects are expected to be completed. The work for building the base for track laying and railway stations is expected to commence soon.
