Starting September 2023, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) will implement a cashless, multi-lane and barrier-free toll payment system allowing commuters to pass through expressways in the Philippines with the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) stickers.

The system will be deployed on the MPTC-operated highways including North Luzon Expressway, the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway, NLEX Connector Road, Manila-Cavite Expressway, Cavite-Laguna Expressway and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.

Complete deployment of the cashless toll collection system is set for 2024.

Moreover, San Miguel Corporation (SMC), which operates the South Luzon Expressway, Skyway, NAIA Expressway, Star Tollway, Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway and the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, also plan to remove cash lanes. Plans are awaiting approval from the government.

Currently, 75 per cent of all motorists in the Philippines use the RFID system to pay for their tolls.
