The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has opened the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway to traffic in Cambodia. This is the first expressway in the country. A one-month toll-free trail is also underway and will last till the end of October 2022.

As of now, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway can only be used by cars that drive at speeds higher than 70km/h and motorcycles with power of 500cc and higher.

The USD2 billion expressway is 187 km-long and will link Phnom Penh and Preah Sihanouk, reducing travel time from five hours to just two hours. China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) was one of the key investors, as a part of the Government of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
