The Philippine’s House of Representatives has granted the final approval for the proposed PHP1.196 trillion budget to finance the country’s infrastructure projects during 2023. The government’s infrastructure budget makes up for more than 22 per cent of the total PHP5.268 trillion budget for 2023.

Additionally, the house has also approved the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) requested budget of PHP167.12 billion budget for 2023, representing a 120 per cent increase compared to its 2022 budget. Some of the key projects that will be financed include the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), Metro Manila Subway Project, LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension and EDSA Busway Project among others.

However, funding approval has not been granted for DOTr’s PHP778 million public utility vehicles (PUV) Modernisation Program.
