The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) has completed the installation of approximately 18,687 km of natural gas pipelines and additional infrastructure across Indonesia. This includes 5,200 km of transmission pipelines, 5,900 km of distribution pipes, and 7,500 km of gas pipelines.

This is part of the Government of Indonesia’s plan to develop natural gas infrastructure, to support the transition to clean energy and to replace fossil fuels in the power production, industry, and residential sectors.

Additionally, work on a transmission pipeline for the Cirebon-Semarang section of the Dumai-Sei Mangkei pipeline is currently ongoing. Once completed, the pipeline will connect the gas network on the Java and Sumatra Islands.

This is a national strategic project that will be implemented through multi-year contracts in the 2022 and 2023 budgets. In May 2022, the first contract was awarded to PT Pembangunan Perumahan and PT Elnusa Tbk for work on the Dumai-Sei Mangkei pipeline. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
