Bombardier Transportation, the rail equipment division of Canada-based conglomerate Bombardier Incorporated, has delivered the first of 73 three-car Movia C951 driverless metro trains to the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the downtown line (DTL, still under construction). The delivery of another 10 trains is expected by the third quarter of 2013 for the 3.4 km section of Stage I of DTL, scheduled to open in 2013. All the remaining trains will be delivered in mid-2016. The 90 per cent recyclable, driverless metro cars employ propulsion technology with low energy consumption and optimised performance. The trains are part of the S$463.51 million contract that Bombardier signed with LTA in November 2008.
