Canada-based Bombardier Transportation has secured a $607 million contract from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to supply 66 six-car trains (396 coaches) for the North-South and East-West of the MRT system in Singapore. The contract includes an option for long-term service support which, if exercised by SMRT Corporation Limited, would increase the value of the contract to $881 million. The new trains will replace the first-generation trains currently deployed on the MRT network. The delivery is scheduled to begin in 2021. The trains have been designed in Germany and are being manufactured in China.
