Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has announced plans to replace its fleet with 3,390 electric buses (e-buses) in Thailand. The buses will be acquired in three phases, with 350 e-buses added in the first phase, followed by 1,520 e-buses in each of the other two phases.
The delivery was scheduled in 2023, 2024, and 2025 respectively but the project has been delayed due to the reconstitution of the BMTA board. BMTA also plans to finalise the purchasing contract for the initial 350 e-buses by June or July 2024 and deliveries are scheduled for August or September 2024.
Moreover, BMTA has also launched other projects for electrification which include the implementation of the BMTA GPS – Fleet Management System and the transformation of Bang Khen and Minburi depots into commercial hubs.
