Ho Chi Minh City’s (HCMC) Transportation Facility Construction Investment Project Management Committee (Transportation Committee) has announced plans to commence the bidding process for the first bus rapid transit (BRT) line in the city in the third quarter of 2021. Currently, the Transportation Committee is drafting the technical design documents of the project.

The BRT line will span 26 km and cover 28 stops. The project involves an investment of USD137.45 million, of which the World Bank Group will provide USD124 million as loan. Construction is expected to commence in 2022 and passenger services will commence in 2023. A fleet of 42 buses fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG) is planned to be deployed.
